Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English:

DVD-ROM (2009 edition): In some cases the DVD-ROM only works if the disc is inserted. A patch has been created to solve this, which is available at:

http://www.pearsonlongman.com/dictionaries/support/ldoce5-support.html

Extract/unzip the file and double click it. You should get a message confirming the patch has been successfully applied. Now the software will ask once more to verify the disc, after which it will run without it.
